Reasons why I would be an effective Living Donor
Buddy....
I am the first person to ever donate part of their liver
to a total stranger and I can understand why they would want to help
save someone's life. I have been through countless hours of interviews
with doctors and news media and understand what every part of organ
donation is like from the testing to the surgery and what to expect
after surgery. I will tell it just like it is...no bull just
facts...what to expect and what not to expect. I would answer any
questions completely and honestly.

I feel that I can give a very good and accurate report

will answer all questions, if I have the answer, honestly and
truthfully. Plus it was a wonderful, although painful, experience that
I did for my brother.

Donating two-thirds of my liver to my mother has truly
been the most rewarding experience I've ever had. Not only has the
procedure given my mother a new lease on life, but I've also been given
a lesson regarding what's important in life and what's not. If it were
possible, I would do it all over again without hesitation.

I think my experience being a liver donor would help
encourage someone who was thinking about donating. I would be able to
explain the testing procedures that I went through and help to maybe
alleviate some of their fears. I would also be able to tell them what
to expect after the surgery at the hospital and recovery at home. I
would gladly answer any questions that they might have regarding
donation and hope that I would leave them better informed to be able to
make a decision to donate to someone who might not be able to wait
until a cadaveric organ becomes available.

I am a recent living donor, having gone through the
experience just two months ago. My decision to be a living donor was
made quickly and under extremely difficult conditions as my nephew was
critically ill and had little time. I have had a wonderful experience
and would like to share it with others and provide support to others in
the process of making a decision or otherwise.

Reasons why I would be an effective Living Donor

I had not had the chance to talk to anyone else about
the transplant prior to my surgery, the hospital had asked other donors
to speak but they did not want to discuss the details, what I went thru
changed my life, in some extremely positive ways, it taught me about
what was truly important in life, and that I was able to give my mother
life, at the time they only gave her less than 2 years to live and I
was not about to lose my mother before I turned 40. I have always had
an incredible relationship with my mother, this only made it stronger.
I hope that I can help someone else in this position, take time to
truly think things thru. It took me well over 2 months to decide after
the 4/5 months of testing. It is an enormous step to take. I would like
to be able to help someone make that decision properly.

I feel that I would be an honest person to talk to about
both the negative and positive aspects of donating. I would do it again
in a heartbeat, but I certainly wish I had someone to talk to prior to
surgery, so I could have planned better for the recovery, being a mom
with three small kids and not having family support or help. Now one
year later, EVERYTHING that happened was so worth it!!!

Being able to talk to someone who has gone through a
living liver donation will help someone understand what is involved,
what to expect and ultimately decide if it is something they wish to
proceed with. The more you know in advance the better prepared a person
will be to deal with their initial decision to donate as well as having
a realistic perspective on the post-surgery recovery. Knowledge helps
demystify the entire organ donation process.

I'm very excited to share my experience and knowledge of
liver donation. I consider it a privilege to have had this opportunity.
Prior to donating I was grossly unaware of the lack of donors needed in
this country and around the world and would like to do what I can to
encourage people to donate if possible.

I am a 33-year-old guy who did a non-related liver
donation to my friend Khris. We went through this Feb. 2 2003 and it is
the toughest most painful thing I would put myself through over and
over again. I think talking with someone who has been through this
before is a big help. I got to talk to a gentleman before my surgery
and it helped more than anything else I did.

makes it a lot easier on anyone going through the tests, the actual
surgery, and post surgery a lot easier if they hear from someone who
has done it before.

I would really like to help someone who is either
thinking of donating part of their liver or who is currently testing to
be a living liver donor. My experience is recent, and I can offer an
honest explanation of my entire process. It was recommended to me to
obtain many idfferent experiences from other living donors, and I would
like to offer my experience as so many wonderful people helped me while
I was going through the process.

Reasons why I would be an effective Living Donor
Buddy....
I am a loving and vibrant 31 year old woman who loves
the lord with all her heart and will listen. This is a huge choice and
should not be made without a proper supportive environment. A donor
must be complete in all areas of his/her life prior to becoming
responsible for being a living donor.

I am a recent liver donor, and there are relatively few
of us (no offense to you kidney folks!).
I am a good listener!
