Swimming Coach Recognized for Selflessness
I was told of your website by someone at the New England Bone Marrow Donor Program (a division of the National program), who just informed me that because I have only 1 kidney, unfortunately I can no longer be on the bone marrow registry. I donated my bone marrow to a 17 year old boy with chronic myelogenous leukemia in 1997. Since then I have been called 2 additional times as a preliminary match to someone on the registry (although one patient never ended up having the transplant and the other found a better match).
I also donated a kidney to a stranger (who is no longer a stranger) in 2002. Attached is a link to an article related to the kidney donation if you would like to post on your stories page.
